Free EventThe Montclaire String Quartet will be joined by bassoonist David DeBolt on Sunday October 2 at 4 p.m. to play a program of American music. Twentieth-Century German-American Bernhard Heiden's Serenade for Bassoon and Strings, will open the concert. Heiden studied with Paul Hindemith and continued his neo-Baroque/Classic style of counterpoint and formal structure in his many works written to serve different instrumental combinations. George Gershwin's lovely Romantic Lullaby for String Quartet and Florence Price's String Quartet No. 2 will complete the program. Chicago based African-American Price is becoming widely recognized for her many substantial Romantic-spirited compositions for symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, voice, and piano.
On October 23 the noted New England organ recitalist Sean Fleming will perform on St. John's recently refurbished and augmented E. M. Skinner organ, which features a wide range of orchestral color resources.
