The Contemporary Youth Arts Company (CYAC) will once again bring a world premiere to the stage at the Elk City Playhouse with the debut of The Crib, a powerful new play by Dan Kehde, opening February 27.

This emotionally gripping drama follows a woman’s search for closure twenty years after the loss of her young son. Intended for mature audiences, the production features performances by Kayla Skidmore, Blaize Hassan, Alvin Robinson, Julia Carriger, Amanda Skidmore, and Desirae Rucker.

In The Crib, Dr. Alexis Morgan agrees to spend the summer at her wealthy ex-husband’s vacant beach house. What begins as a quiet retreat quickly becomes an emotional reckoning when she encounters an injured twenty-year-old surfer and his free-spirited girlfriend. Against her better judgment, and that of her ex-husband, Alexis allows herself to believe that the young man could somehow fill the void left by her son’s death. As fantasy and reality blur, her longing for motherhood resurfaces in unexpected ways. When the young man’s adoptive mother arrives searching for him, Alexis is forced to confront the truth and ultimately finds the clarity and release she has sought for decades.

Performances begin at 7:00 p.m. on February 27 and 28, and March 6 and 7, with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m on March 1 and 8.
