GEO:38.331903;-81.58599 LOCATION:The Craik-Patton House\, Conference Room SUMMARY:Seventeen Men: Portraits of African American Civil War Soldiers URL;VALUE=URI:https://events.charlestonwv.com/event/seventeen_men_portraits _of_african_american_civil_war_soldiers CATEGORIES:Art END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTAMP:20260720T132821Z UID:tag:localist.com\,2008:EventInstance_38892645552193 DTSTART:20220430T140000Z DTEND:20220430T180000Z DESCRIPTION:Charleston\, WV - The Historic Craik-Patton House will feature a temporary exhibit titled Seventeen Men: Portraits of African American Ci vil War Soldiers March 1st through April 30th 2022.\n\nSeventeen Men is th e creation of professional artist\, illustrator\, and genealogist\, Shayne Davidson of Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, who uncovered an album containing Civi l War-era photographs of men primarily from the Mid-Atlantic region who se rved in Company G of the 25th United States Colored Troops Infantry Regime nt.\n\nUsing the photographs that she had obtained\, Davidson created life size portraits of these soldiers and supplemented their images with detai led biographies\, an endeavor which allows viewers to truly see these subj ects as living men.\n\nSince 2017 this work has been on display as a solo exhibit at nearly a dozen museums and will finally be available to guests visiting the Craik-Patton House in early 2022.\n\n“African Americans who served in the United States military during the Civil War haven't receive d the recognition that they deserve\,” states Craik-Patton Executive Dir ector Nathan Jones\, “we are thankful for Davidson’s work and our part ners at Civil War Trails for allowing us to share this exhibit with the co mmunity.”\n\nSeventeen Men: Portraits of African American Civil War Sold iers will be available to the public for free during regular and extended visiting hours.
