Mark Scarpelli’s music lives again in The Legacy: A New Ballet from the Music of Mark Scarpelli. Telling the story of the legacy of beauty and love that artists bring to the world, The Legacy is adapted from ten of Mark’s most memorable musical themes.
For more than 4 decades Mark Scarpelli was part of the Charleston music scene. A prolific composer and performer, Mark created the musical scores for more than twenty works for the stage, as well as several movie scores and countless smaller compositions for piano and orchestra. When Mark passed away 4 years ago, his musical legacy continued with the annual production of the rock opera MARY, written with lyricist Dan Kehde.
Now, with the talents of choreographer Rob Royce and composer Timothy Cooper, nearly a dozen pieces of Mark’s musical legacy take to the stage in the form of a new ballet entitled “The Legacy”, scheduled for performances at the Clay Center on August 27 and 28, 7PM.
Mark’s music will live on for years to come.
