Three Things, produced by Jeff Shirley, presents 3 unique professionals discussing their first, favorite and future works, revealing a side not often seen by the public. Learn what inspires and drives some of your favorite area professionals at this live monthly speaker series. Guests for this episode: Doug van Gundy, Joanna Tabit, and Rod Blackstone.

Joanna Tabit – Judge – Joanna has been a Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge since she was appointed
by then Governor Earl Ray Tomblin in 2014. A Charleston native, Judge Tabit earned her bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration from Marshall University in 1983 and her law degree from West
Virginia University College of Law in 1986.

Rod Blackstone – Deputy to the Mayor/Baseball Enthusiast – A Graduate of Political Science and
Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University, Rod was the Press Secretary in Gov. Cecil Underwood’s
office before becoming the Communications Director for WV Chamber of Commerce. Since 2003 he has
Deputy Mayor under Danny Jones. As “Toastman”, Rod is a staple at, Single A baseball team, WV Power
games.

Doug Van Gundy – Poet/Musician/Educator – Doug earned his Bachelor of Arts, English Language and
Literature/Letters, from Davis & Elkins College and an MFA in Poetry from Goddard College. He has
played guitar and fiddle in Born Old for over 20 years. Since 2010 he has been teaching at WV Wesleyan
College, where he is Director of the Honors Program. Doug was also a contestant on the first season of
Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
